Augustus Syria Turner, affectionately known as "Beaver", was born March 12, 1971, to Albert Smith, Jr. (deceased) and Judith Turner. At a very young age, Augustus's mother recognized the talents of a true legend in her son and enrolled him in the Cleveland School of the Arts, where he graduated 1988.
After high school, Augustus received a scholarship and attended Columbus College of Art and Design. He received a BFA in illustration from The Cleveland Institute of Art. After a ten-year period, he dedicated his life to his community by opening his business, "Masterpieces", where he performed all aspects of art.
In 2003, Augustus married Valencia DeJesus Turner, their union lasted 18 years, and he helped raise two sons, Rashad DeJesus and Lynn Patrick Powe. Augustus's love of family and life made him a great asset to his community. His body of work is displayed throughout the Greater Cleveland area, east and west, including the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.
Augustus was a man of no complaints and pursued his dreams and wishes with a brain tumor for over 20 years. Not letting his health get him down, he recently was working with the Ohio City Near West Development on a mural project. Currently, he has an Art Show displayed in Las Vegas where he was a member of the Las Vegas artist guild.
Augustus is survived by his mother, Judith Turner, his grandmother, Betty Smith, wife, Valencia Turner, sons Rashad DeJesus, and Lynn Patrick Powe, brother, Brian Williams, sisters, Robin Turner, and Shay Smith, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
