Charmaine Simone Ellis was born on November 16, 1978, to Lucille Patricia Crayton and Dwight Allen Drew, Sr. The fourth of her mother's five children, Charmaine brought creativity, warmth, and a generous spirit to her family and to everyone blessed to know her. She departed this life on September 15, 2026, leaving a legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable memories.
Charmaine attended Martin Luther King Junior High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University. She was also a gifted party planner. With her remarkable creativity and eye for detail, she could turn any occasion into something extraordinary. Whatever she created seemed to flourish and look like a million dollars.
Charmaine was a woman of many talents: a hairstylist, owner of Charmaine Daycare, gifted cook and chef, party planner, and stylist who always knew how to find a great sale. She was also the family's mediator, counselor, and steadfast supporter. A beloved daughter, sister, niece, and grandmother, she treasured the many roles she held. Above all, her most cherished gift was being a mother.
Charmaine loved wholeheartedly and cared for other people's children as if they were her own. Her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews were her bonus children, each holding a special place in her heart. She would do anything she could for anyone in need. Charmaine lived by the belief that where there was a will, there was a way.
Charmaine loved to dance! Dancing was an expression of her joy and love for life. Even after her colon cancer diagnosis, she continued to dance, cook, style hair, and help others whenever she could. Her illness did not diminish her generous heart or her determination to make beautiful memories. She made sure her baby girl, Moe'Nay, experienced an unforgettable Sweet 15 celebration, pouring her love and creativity into every detail. That was Charmaine: always giving her all.
Charmaine was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lucille Patricia Crayton and Dwight Allen Drew, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Moe'Nay Ellis, Quentasia Ellis, and Quentin Ellis; her granddaughter, Ja'Ziah Parrish; her siblings, Lamont Ellis, Tyrone Ellis, Cherisse Ellis, LaToica Crayton, Dwight Allen Drew, Jr., Ra'Pheil Drew, and Jamall Drew; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and friends.
We thank God that Charmaine is no longer in pain. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the love she shared and the memories we will forever carry. May her life inspire us to love more deeply, care for one another, and draw closer to the Lord.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
