Wilbert Brown Obituary

Wilbert Milton Brown was born March 26, 1934, in Jasper, Alabama, to Evans Brown Sr. and Maggie Brown (nee Thornton). He had four siblings who preceded him in death: Mary Alice Bohannon, Evans Brown Jr, Jimmie Gray Brown, and Nellie Jean Brown. He was baptized at St. James C.M.E. Church in Jasper, Alabama, at an early age. In 1953, he graduated from Walker County Training School.

After graduation, he moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he was employed at the V.A. Hospital for ten (10) years. He then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he met the love of his life, Billie Jean Johnson. From that union, four children were born: Mark, Danny, Gerald, and Camille. Wilbert became an ordained Deacon under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Earl Preston Jr. of the Morning Star Baptist Church. He later joined Olivet Institutional Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Jawanza Karriem Colvin, Pastor.

Wilbert was a dedicated employee of the Chrysler Corporation for 30 years and retired in 1996. Wilbert, affectionately known as "Bobie," loved jazz music, collecting model trains and antique vehicles. He also enjoyed listening to gospel greats like The Soul Stirrers and The Five Blind Boys. Bobie was also known for his skills on the grill-he had some of the best tasting barbecue in Cleveland, Ohio. Bobie was a caring and loving man, son and husband. He was a devoted father, constant provider, fierce protector of his family, friends and community that stood strong in his beliefs and love for God.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Billie Brown of 59 years, five children, Staccato Hunter, Mark Anthony Brown (Delia), Danny Terrell Brown (Krista, deceased), Gerald DeWayne Brown, Camille Dianne McMichael (Marcus), ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
