Wesley Funches Obituary

Wesley B. Funches was born on June 25, 1937 to Louis Funches and Jessie Mae Adams. He has two siblings. On April 15, 2021, Wesley moved from this earthly home to a better place the Lord prepared for him.

Wesley grew up in Marks, Mississippi. He graduated from Marks High School then attended Natchez Junior College where he obtained an Associates Degree in Botany. Wesley married Dorothy Jean Patterson, and over the years the two celebrated the birth of three sons and two daughters. Wesley resided in Cleveland, Ohio for the remainder of his life. He worked as an Auto Mechanic and retired in 1989.

Wesley's mother and his wife affectionately called him "Wes B". He liked to read; his favorite titles were Magnificent Obsession by Lloyd Douglas and In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. Wesley's favorite food was beans and he said he could eat them every day! He enjoyed westerns and regularly watched two television shows: The Flintstones and Star Trek.

Wesley's hobbies included bowling, painting, and he even considered himself a "pool hustler." However, his favorite past-time was fishing. He would rise early in the morning to travel to his regular location and often return late evening. Although he was often accompanied by a buddy, fishing alone was not a problem for him. He sat by the water, enjoyed his surroundings and waited patiently for a catch. Wesley was a quiet man, and while in his presence that quietness would transfer to you.

Wesley is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Funches and Jessie Mae Adams; a son, Diondre Louis Funches; and his grandmother, “Big Mama” Maybell Franklin.  He leaves to mourn: Dorothy Funches, his loving wife of 60 years; his sister, Peggie (Terrell) Hackney; and brother, Louis (Maria) Funches. Also in mourning are his children: Melanie (William) Miller, Anita (Shawn) Howard, Wesley Funches, Jr, Russell Funches; and two daughters-in-law, Cynthia Williams Funches and Lakeesha Tolliver Funches.  His entire family will remember and cherish his long life.
