Maverick Johnson

November 24, 1957 ~ August 25, 2023 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Maverick Johnson was born to the union of Percy Lee Wilson and Henry Charles Johnson on November 24, 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio. His parents and siblings Charles Edward, Lanny Carles and Sylvia Patrice preceded him in death.

Maverick accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at The Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. He was also a member of Open Door Baptist Church then later First Love Outreach Ministry in Cleveland, Ohio. As a young child, Maverick suffered from seizures. He overcame them with the close oversight by his loving mother, family and the care of Cleveland Clinic. Maverick was a 1976 graduate of John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Maverick was employed by Goodyear Automotive and was a member of UFCW Local 880 for 13 years as an employee of Tops/Giant Eagle.

Maverick's love for and faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gave him the strength he needed to sustain him through his difficult days. Additionally, Maverick had an unapologetic love for his daughter Ayanah, his family and many friends. No matter what, through faith, Maverick loved and enjoyed life.

Maverick married the love of his life, Beverly A. Johnson on July 9, 1993. They were married for 19 years and in this union, they were blessed with one beautiful daughter, Ayanah M. Johnson. Ayanah was Mav's "Greatest Accomplishment." He rocked her, he sang to her, he carried her around the house when she was a little fussy. Maverick was more than a father; he was a Daddy, and it was all hands-on deck when it came to his "Babygirl" Maverick was so proud to be a Girl Dad and Ayanah loved being Daddy's girl. He was her protector, teacher, playmate, sparring buddy, chauffeur, provider and her "Best Friend." She was the love of his life! From the time Ayanah made her entrance into the world, Mav told her he would always protect her, and he did just that.

Maverick's cancer battle came back under attack August 21, 2022. His various appointments, treatments, hospitalizations, although challenging, were met with Faith, Determination and Support from his biggest cheerleader, Ayanah. Maverick was loved and taken care of with the utmost love and respect by his Babygirl. On August 25, 2023, Maverick took his final bow and went to glory.

Maverick is survived by a loving family: daughter Ayanah; brother Henry (Nancy) of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters Katherine Smith (Jeffrey) of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and Ella Batch of Cleveland Ohio; step-sister Mattie White (Lee) of Canton, Mississippi; nephews Jeffrey Smith (Beth), Christopher Johnson, Robert Batch Jr., Anthony Smith, Jacob Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Charles Johnson II; Nieces, Wendy Batch (Craig), Andria Robinson (Adam), Samantha Schilling (Jason), Deena Johnson and Rhonda Wilson; numerous other relatives and friends.
