Gertrude Carter Obituary

Gertrude Carter was born June 10, 1947, to Carl and Lois Carter in Cleveland, Ohio and she had four sisters.

Gertrude graduated from East High School in 1965. She was affiliated with Triedstone Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age. She loved singing praises to God so she became a member of the church choir. After many years in Ohio, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she stayed for approximately 5 years before moving to Dallas, Texas.

Gertrude loved working with numbers and she was very good at it. So, she decided to work for Central National/Society Bank shortly after high school where she worked for over 20 years. She had a beautiful smile that would light a room, angelic voice and a heart of gold. Unfortunately, we will no longer hear that beautiful voice. She passed away on January 8, 2022, in Cleveland, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lois Carter and sister, Carllee Featherstone.

Gertrude Carter is survived by her daughter, Karen Carter; sisters, Joeann Patton, Annie Ruth Swagerty, Lois Little; nieces, Cheryl Darby, Carla Woods (Bernard), Charvon Patton, Davida Moore, Dedra Vassar, Tonya Merchant, Takara Darby, Audrey King, Syria Dunbar Leah Little, Carllee Featherstone (Poo); nephews, Carl Carter (Kendra), Gary Featherstone (Neesee), Deandre Watkins, Adam Watkins, Gary Featherstone Jr., Zechariah Dunbar, Elijah Ryan and host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear and loving friends.

A mother's love is truly something to cherish. She will always be in our hearts. Although she left us, we will always remember that beautiful smile and gigantic heart. Everyone who knew her, embraced her expressions of love. Even though we will struggle to move on, we know we will see that smiling face once again. We will have peace because we know she is with the Heavenly Father. Mother will truly be missed.
