Elayne Catherine Mitchell-Sowell joined the Lord on January 18, 2022. Elayne was born to parents, Minnie Pullman, and Newton Mitchell in Cleveland, Ohio on April 11, 1933. She was the second eldest born to this union along with a brother, Grady (deceased).
Elayne was baptized at an early age at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, and later was a long-standing member of Fidelity Baptist Church until her health prevented her from attending. Elayne graduated from Central High School in 1951.
Elayne was a proud loving friend, parent, and grandparent, she loved everyone. Elayne would give the shirt off her back, and she was loved by her whole community. Everyone in the community referred to her as "Mom". She was well known as the "Lottery Lady", "The Candy Lady", and having a very extended vocabulary. Elayne was the owner of J&D Deli since 1973.
Elayne was proceeded in death by her husband, William "Po' Butch" Sowell, along with three of her children, Micheline Faison, Marlowe Adams, and Adrienne Lewis.
Elayne leaves to cherish in her memory four daughters, Cheryl Adams, Georgina Adams, Rebecca Streeter (Timothy-deceased), and Kimberly Jackson; three sons, Eric Minor (Sharon), Jonathan Jackson, and Jason Jackson; as well as a host of 69 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. She will be missed, and her legacy will forever be in our hearts.
