William Rome Maxey was born on July 23, 1968, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Arleatha Clark and William Clark (preceded him in death). He attended Doan Elementary School in Cleveland, Crouse Middle School in Akron, Lincoln West High School, and graduated from Kenmore High School in Akron, Ohio.
Rome was employed at SP+ for 28 years, where he performed multiple duties including customer service, maintenance, and engineering work. He genuinely enjoyed helping others and was known for his humble spirit and servant's heart. Even during his father's illness, Rome devoted himself to caring for him until his passing. He loved meeting new people and engaging in conversation with everyone he encountered, often introducing himself as "Chill Will." Rome learned how to ride a motorcycle at the age of nine, which became a lifelong hobby, along with his love for watching football.
Over 50 years ago, Rome asked Sharlene to check the box that said, "Will you be my girlfriend?" They later shared 20 years of marriage. Rome faithfully provided for his wife and ensured all her needs were met. He was an exceptional father to four sons, of whom he was extremely proud. Through one of his sons, he gained a daughter-in-law, Samantha Cunningham, with whom he shared a special bond-especially enjoying their many Cleveland Browns conversations.
William leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Arleatha Clark; his devoted wife, Sharlene Cunningham; his sons, William Da'Sean Cunningham (preceded him in death), Rome Paris Cunningham, Christopher Andrews, and Jamahl Raymond Cunningham; his daughter-in-law, Sammantha Cunningham; his goddaughter, Desaray Lashay Siggers; his beloved grandchildren: Nathan, Doreanna, William Jr., Michael Rome, Layana, Gabriella, Zaniyah, Saryn, Jamahl Jr., Caleb, Damarion, and Makayla; and his sibling, Chisa Clark-Shihadeh (Joseph).
William leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
