Sandra R. Marrero "Sandy" was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 6, 1959, to the late Elijah and Georgia Robertson. She was the second youngest of her siblings and was raised in a loving family that instilled faith, compassion, and strength in her early years.
Sandra accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Willing Workers MBC. She was a faithful servant and active member until her health began to decline. Sandra served as the church secretary for many years and was a proud member of the gospel and combined choir-her favorite song to lead was "Jesus Can Work It Out." She wrote Easter and Christmas plays and speeches for the children of the church, always finding joy in sharing God's word through creativity and love.
She attended Glenville High School and pursued further education through college and trade schools. In Junior High, she developed a love for typing and dedicated herself to mastering it. Every summer, she would set up a school in the basement and help neighborhood children with basic subjects, supporting their education and inspiring their growth.
Sandra worked as a daycare provider and owned her own business, San-Mar Daycare. Her motto was, "Jesus loves all the children, and so do I." This was more than a saying-it was a principle she lived by. She was dedicated to her work and to every child she served, teaching many of her nieces and nephews along the way.
Sandra was united in marriage to her late husband, Alfred Marrero, with whom she shared a deep and loving bond. Although she had no biological children, she lovingly adopted Curtis George at age three and cared for him until his passing at fifteen, and later adopted Glen Stafford at age one. Sandra treated her nieces and nephews as her own; she knew their hearts, dreams, and struggles, serving as their teacher, comforter, and biggest cheerleader.
Even as her health declined, Sandra never lost her faith or her joy for life. She continued to find strength in family, laughter, and love. In her final months, she was surrounded with care and affection, especially from her sister and health aide, Yvonne, and her great-great-great niece, Ja'Mya, who remained by her side with love until the very end.
Family was everything to Sandra. She proudly celebrated the accomplishments of her nieces and nephews and embraced even the neighborhood children, who lovingly called her "Auntie." Her home was always open, and she gave even when she had little. Through good times and hard times, Sandy was always there-the true matriarch of the family. She loved organizing bus trips, hosting game nights, and celebrating life with those she loved.
Among those who held a special place in her heart are Jaquel Warner, Devonte Houston, Ja'Mya and Amonni Harris, Mya, Taneka and Cierra Banks, Anthony Gilmore, Terri and Renee Taylor, Bruce Mathews Jr., and her two amigas, Yvonne Robertson and Evelyn Gilmore, who will continue to carry her soul, strength, and passion.
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Sandra gained her wings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Deacon Elijah Robertson and Mother Georgia Robertson; her husband, Alfred Marrero; her son, Curtis George; and her brother, Leonard Robertson. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Glen Stafford; her siblings, Yvonne Robertson, Nathaniel Robertson (Regina), Evelyn Gilmore, and Jacquelline (Jackie) Robertson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Her laughter, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
