Roman Rashad Clay, born on March 4, 1986, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on March 5, 2026, in his beloved hometown. He was the son of Richard A. Clay Jr. and Candice Clay and the youngest of four children. He attended Kennedy High School, where he was a starting player on the football team for all four years.
A devoted father, brother, and friend, Roman's heart was as big as his passion for life. Roman was our dedicated head of security, ensuring the safety of those around him and embodying the spirit of loyalty and protection that defined his character.
Roman was well known for his love of sports, particularly football, where he excelled and forged lasting friendships. An excellent cook, he often brought loved ones together around the dinner table, creating delicious meals that nourished both body and soul. Roman's charisma and unwavering support made him a beloved figure; he was truly everyone's bodyguard, always ready to lend a helping hand or a comforting hug.
To be a man known for love and protection is truly a legacy to inspire to. Roman's legacy of love and protection will continue to inspire those who knew him. Roman was a lover of sports, football to be exact. He played for the Kennedy Eagles and was a beast. Then he went on to Rainy College in Minnesota to play there. His stay and play were brief, but he made an impact. He loved his family, especially McKenzie (Baby Cub). He was a jokester and kept people laughing. He was a gentleman. He was caring and sharing. He was a joy bringer and a love giver. But ultimately, he was a man of God.
He is survived by his mother, Candace Bennette; two sisters, Deirdre and Marissa; one brother, Richard; one daughter, McKenzie; his ex-wife, India Browne; one beloved grandmother, Christine E. Clay; two aunties, Robin and Lucretia; two uncles, Ronald and Colin; special cousins, Reggie and Monique; brother-in-law, Antoine; sister-in-law, Marie; as well as many more cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Roman, if you are listening, we miss you already. Until we meet again.
