Robert Cooper

April 26, 1952 — February 10, 2026

Robert Cooper, born on April 26, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, was born the sixth of nine children to James and Bertha Cooper. He found solace in his faith at a young age and became a member of Second New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

Robert's education began in the Cleveland Municipal school district, where he attended East High. He later earned his G.E.D. before serving in the United States Army from 1976 to 1979, where he held the rank of PV1, Motor Transport Operator. He transitioned to the Army Reserve from 1979 to 1983. During his time in the Army he was awarded Marksman(Rifle) Decorations.

In March 1992, Robert also known as Coop to family and friends obtained his certificate in building and maintenance from the Great Lakes Technical Institute of Technology. He dedicated his career to the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority until his retirement in December 2024.

Coop was a very hard worker and very determined. He dipped his hands in many trades, such as home improvement, carpentry, and volunteering in his community. He was a kid at heart and always kept everyone entertained. He was the handyman to anyone that had home issues.

Coop was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Cooper; his father, James Cooper; mother, Bertha Cooper; brother's James Jr. (Effie dec'd.) Cooper, of San Antonio, Texas; Louis Cooper, of Cleveland, Ohio; Eddie Cooper, of Cleveland, Ohio.

Coop left this earthly life on Tuesday February 10th 2026. He leaves to cherish his memory and honor his legacy; Daughter Latonya Abdul-Rasheed of Cleveland, Ohio, Three grandchildren whom he loved with his whole heart they could do no wrong in his eyes: Shermaine Wagner of Cleveland, Ohio, Marteja Dotson of Irvington, NJ, and Amir Abdul-Rasheed. Three brothers; Frank (Diane, deceased) Cooper of Junction City, Kansas; Sylvester (LoWanda) Cooper of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Calvin (Debra) Cooper of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He also leave behind two sisters. Jeannette Cooper Adams and Linnette (Willie) Scott of Cleveland, Ohio, one aunt Sara Weather of Cincinnati, Ohio. He also leaves to cherish his memory nine nephews and eleven nieces, along with a selection of other bonus children, grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

Coop never met anyone who did not become a friend. He was known as a truly genuine, stylish guy; a peacemaker, a sports fanatic, a great father and provider by all who knew and grew to love him. Our lives will never be the same without him and we are better people for having known and loved him.
