Muriel Elaine Kelly-Taylor, was born December 24, 1940, to the late Herbert Ray and the late Lucille Overton. Muriel was the third of seven children. Muriel received her education in the Cleveland Public School System, graduating class of 1958.
Muriel accepted Christ at an early age, and developed a passion for serving the Lord.
Muriel would later find her career in the Cleveland Public School System as a Secretary and Educator. While working as an Educator, Muriel volunteered at St. Aloysius for the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization). Muriel was the first Female African American Coach. Muriel coached for over 2 decades. During her tenure as Coach, Muriel led her teams to multiple Championships. These “team relationships” would later lead Muriel to mentoring many young girls and children. She was not just a coach to her teammates she played the role of mom, teacher and friend to everyone she came across during her time at St. Al’s. She has always been the type of person to give the shirt of her back, put food in your belly and give you a place to lay your head. Muriel later joined the Church of the Living God House of Prayer Ministry, where she sang on the Praise Team and the Mass Choir. Muriel utilized her gifts at her church home. She served in the Children’s Ministry, Mentoring Program and the Mother’s Board. Mother Taylor served the ministry faithfully for over two decades, until she fell ill.
Her husband proceeded her in death the late Henry Taylor. Also, Muriel leaves to mourn her two sons Kregg D. Overton (Lilly) and Kevin L. Kelly (Jackie Kelly), Gregory Overton her eldest son also proceeds her in death. She also has one stepdaughter Trina Taylor. Six sibling who all proceeded her in death Raymond, Lawrence (Donna), Barbara, Austein, Linwood, Terrance (Debra). She also leaves to mourn six grandchildren Laneer Nicohls, Sharri Long, Kregg Jr., Candice, Terra, and Jawuan. Thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
