Gladys Sykes

December 5, 1934 — April 2, 2026

Gladys Sykes was born on December 5, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Clarence Lewis and Flora Jane Lewis (née Green). She peacefully departed this life on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

Gladys was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, where she developed a strong sense of family, faith, and community that would guide her throughout her life. She was a devoted member of East Mt. Zion Church, where she faithfully served as an usher. Her presence in the church was a reflection of her commitment to service, her love for God, and her dedication to uplifting others.

Gladys was a proud and hardworking woman who dedicated many years of service to Community Housing Solutions, from which she later retired. Her work reflected her caring spirit and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Known for her jovial personality and beautiful smile, Gladys brought warmth and joy wherever she went. She was the heart of the family in many ways, serving as the family historian. Gladys was the one everyone turned to for stories, photographs, and cherished memories of generations past. She carried the legacy of her family with pride, ensuring that the history of her parents, grandparents, and extended family would never be forgotten.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Lewis and Flora Jane Lewis (née Green); her sisters, Anna, Alma, Dolores, Ollie Mae, and Flora Jane; and her brothers, Benjamin, James, and Clarence, making her the last surviving member of her immediate family line.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted son, Henry Lewis; her beloved grandchildren, Henrique, Andrea, Henry, and Aunray Tucker; her great grandchildren, Tiawna and Anthony Lewis; Tania Tucker (who preceded her in death in 2012), Antonio Tucker, and Anthony Tinker; Inea Tucker, Maurice Lovelace, Henrique Tucker, Unique Tucker, and Niya Tucker; along with a host of extended family members, loved ones, and dear friends who will continue to honor her life and legacy.

Though she has departed from this earthly life, her spirit, her stories, and her love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
