Elizabeth Cannon

Mattie Elizabeth Williams was born on July 12, 1929, in Jefferson County, Alabama, to the late Hunter Williams and Beulah Toney.

Elizabeth accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a very young age. She was the eldest of five children. She left Jefferson County in the early 1940s and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where she spent the rest of her life.

Elizabeth worked diligently for many years as a domestic worker, particularly in the Shaker Heights area. She enjoyed traveling on group trips with her friends at the senior center and was well-known for riding the R.T.A. across Cleveland. One of her greatest joys was preparing and enjoying Sunday meals. She trusted God wholeheartedly and often declared that He had never failed her-her faith was steadfast and unwavering.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Hunter and Beulah Williams; three sisters; one brother; stepson Allen Cannon one great-niece, Monique; one nephew, Arthur James-fondly known as "Slim".

Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Darryl "Butch" Jones, and Jeffrey Jones; three stepdaughters, Mary Alice Cannon, Machelle Browner, and Brenda Cannon, affectionately known as "Little Mama"; two stepsons, Larry & Charles Cannon; five nieces, Wanda, Rose, Shirley, Mary and Vickie; three nephews, Gregory, William, and Fred; three grandchildren, Maria, Darryl William James and Elizabeth; one great grandchild, Nayzir; and a host of extended family and friends.
