Evangelist Elizabeth Brothers, known for her unwavering faith and love for the Lord, peacefully passed away on July 21, 2024, at the age of 78.
She loved the Lord with all her heart and mind, and spent each day immersed in the Word of God, finding strength in His presence.
Elizabeth was born to George Scott and Annie Steen in Selma, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kataya Kim Brothers (Kimmy) and sisters Freddie Mae Meadows and Georgia Mae Pratt.
Elizabeth pursued her education at Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York, and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. She continued her academic journey by pursuing a Doctor of Ministry from South University, focusing on prison ministry for the youth in the Glenville area.
After graduating highschool Elizabeth spent time in Washington D.C. before relocating to Ohio where she planted her roots with her daughter, Kataya. She worked tirelessly in public service for the Lake County Board of Elections and served in healthcare roles at Comfort Keepers, Chardon Rehabilitation, Around the Clock, Haven Homes, and Mentor Public Schools. Her life works extended to visiting the sick and shut-in, embodying her role as a missionary and evangelist.
Elizabeth's faith in God was central to her life, and she was a devoted member of Messiah Ministries Church of God in Christ, guided by Pastor Justine Gates Lockwood. Her ministry spanned over 45 years with affiliations at Hiawatha C.O.G.I.C., Greater Community C.O.G.I.C., Greater Faith Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C., Start Right C.O.G.I.C., Calvary C.O.G.I.C., and True Holiness C.O.G.I.C.
Elizabeth accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age. She was always on the go, if you didn't see her in church, you could find her volunteering at Lake Health hospitals, where she dedicated her time for over 25 years. Additionally, she also ministered to the elderly and created care packages for the homeless with her lifelong friend, Mother Lillie Harris. Her life was a true example of sacrifice and love.
Elizabeth was cherished as a mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, Godmother, and so much more. She took in her three grandchildren and raised them with unconditional love and nurtured them as her own. Her dedication to their well-being was a testament to her selflessness and deep love for family. Elizabeth not only provided a stable and loving home but also inspired her grandchildren to pursue higher education and explore the world. She believed in the power of education and encouraged them to reach for their dreams. Her support and guidance were instrumental in shaping their futures.
Elizabeth's favorite scriptures included John 3:16, Psalm 27, and John 14. These resonated deeply with her and her walk with the Lord. She also loved blue, a good lifetime movie or anything with talking animals. She was known for her homemade banana pudding, baked spaghetti and potato salad.
