In Loving Memory of Eddie "Great" Dickerson

Sunrise: September 20, 1950 - Sunset: June 9, 2025

Eddie Dickerson, affectionately known as "Great," was born on September 20, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late John Henry and Lillie Dickerson. He was the second son in a large and loving family.

In his early years, Eddie, along with his parents and siblings, relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where he spent the majority of his life. At the age of 16, Eddie made the courageous decision to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army Corps during the Vietnam War. During his time of service, he earned his GED and completed various other academic and technical programs. He received an honorable discharge after fulfilling his duties with pride and distinction.

Following his military service, Eddie held various jobs throughout the years. However, due to health challenges stemming from his time in the Army, he was eventually granted full disability, which limited his ability to perform manual labor.

Eddie faced life's adversities with quiet strength and resilience. Despite the challenges, his love for his siblings, cousins, and close friends remained unwavering. Eddie was a man of deep loyalty and affection, always ready with a listening ear or a word of support. He found joy in life's simple pleasures-listening to music, watching action movies, and spending time with family.

Although Eddie did not have children of his own, he loved and cared for his nieces and nephews as if they were his very own. His presence, laughter, and wisdom left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: his brothers James, A.D., and Rick, and his sister Rose, all of Cleveland, Ohio.

He leaves to cherish his memory:

Five brothers - Larry, Ernest, Michael, and Johnnie (all of Cleveland), and Johnathan of Shreveport, Louisiana;

One sister - Cherish of Shreveport, Louisiana;

Sister-in-law - Eileen;

Nephews - Michael Jr. and Malik;

Niece - Maryssa;

Along with a host of other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Eddie's life was a testament to strength, love, and quiet generosity. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.

Let me know if you'd like to add a photo caption, prayer, scripture, or poem for the program.

Scripture

2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."

This verse honors Eddie's perseverance through trials, his commitment to his family, and the dignity with which he lived life on his own terms.

🙏🏾 Prayer

A Prayer of Honor and Rest

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with gratitude for the life of Eddie "Great" Dickerson.

Thank You for the strength You gave him to face every battle, seen and unseen.

You were with him in the trenches of war, in the quiet moments of caregiving,

in the hard seasons of life, and in the laughter shared with family.

Lord, Eddie carried heavy burdens with quiet courage,

and still made room for love-especially for his nieces, nephews, and beloved mother.

He was a man of honor, loyalty, and truth.

He lived boldly, and without apology.

Now, grant him rest, Father.

Let his soul find peace in Your eternal presence.

May his legacy of grit and love never be forgotten.

Cover those who mourn him with comfort, and keep his memory alive in their hearts.

In Your name, we pray. Amen.

✍🏾 Poem: "The Way He Walked"

He walked a road not paved with ease,

Through battles, storms, and shattered peace.

A soldier first, with fire and pride-

He fought for others, hurt inside.

The world was rough, it made him tough,

But still his heart was soft enough

To raise the young with steady care,

And hold his mother's hand in prayer.

He didn't bend to fit the mold,

He lived his truth, strong and bold.

He loved in silence, deep and wide,

A quiet force, he stood with pride.

No spotlight needed, no grand parade,

Just music low, an action played.

A man of honor, grit, and grace-

We see him now in every face

He touched with love and loyal hands,

Who knew the way he'd take a stand.

So rest now, "Great," your fight is done-

Your race is finished. Victory won.
