Dorothy Spencer

August 13, 1940 — June 24, 2025

Dorothy Nell Frazier was born on August 13, 1940, in Birmingham, AL, to her late parents, John L. and Mildred Frazier. She was the oldest of seven siblings. She grew up attending 46th Street Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. Dorothy attended A.H. Parker High School and graduated at the age of 16. After high school, she attended Lawson State Nursing School, where she earned her degree as an LPN.

Dorothy married Edgar F. Spencer on April 22, 1958. From this union, they welcomed seven children: Kenneth, Vicki (Bruce), Kim, Marche, Michael (Alisa), Deontrinise, and Keith. In 1967, they relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked various nursing jobs until retiring from NEON Health Center. After her marriage to Edgar ended, she met her partner, Horace Green. They traveled and enjoyed life together until his passing.

Dorothy loved playing cards with her children, cooking for her family, shopping, dancing, and music. Her favorite artists were Smokie Norful, Shirley Caesar, Le'Andria Johnson, and Chris Brown.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her siblings Emma, John, and Doug, and by two children, Kenneth and Kim.

Dorothy leaves to mourn five children; Vicki (Bruce), Marche, Michael (Alisa), Deontrinise, and Keith; three siblings, Betty (Jimmy), Terrance (Heidi), and Johnathan (Sharon); 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
