David Phillips was called to his eternal resting place on August 11, 2024. He entered this world on February 18, 1959, in Cleveland, OH, born to Harry and Inell Phillips as the 14th of 15 children. He is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and five sisters.
David accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Second Baptist Missionary Church in Oceanside, CA. He attended Cleveland Public Schools, and graduated from East Technical High School. After graduation, he attended a technical school in Columbus, Ohio, for a year before joining the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from August 1978 to August 1982, and achieving the rank of Corporal. In 1980, he married Terreathe Alexander, and together they had three children.
David's family continued to grow, and he was blessed with six grandsons, three granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren. After his discharge from the USMC, David returned to Cleveland and began working at the United States Postal Service, first as a machine clerk before transitioning to a letter carrier. This role allowed him to meet and befriend many people. He held this position until he retired due to health issues, including a kidney transplant that extended his life by fourteen years, for which he was deeply grateful. This extra time allowed him to spend more moments with his family and pursue his interests. David wanted everyone to know that in everything he did, he always gave his best and did it his way.
David enjoyed spending time with family and friends and had a deep love for music. He was known for his ability to name a song just by hearing a tune. He spent time on the computer listening to music and playing various games. David also enjoyed playing cards, whether it was tunk, pinochle, or poker. He was an avid bowler and was involved in several bowling leagues, which brought him great joy every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday during the bowling season. Additionally, David loved watching TV shows like Castle, cooking shows, game shows, and sports. However, his greatest hobby was his trips to various casinos and racetracks.
David is survived by his wife Terreathe, his children: Michelle (Emery) Love, Niquesha, and Shavonne (Derrick) Beal; his grandchildren: Justin Williams, Natalie Phillips, Terence Phillips, Natasha Phillips, Elijah McKenzie, Demetrius Davis, Quentin Davis, Delonte Horn, and Sophia Beal; and his great-grandchildren: Avery, Grace, and Myles. He also leaves behind his sisters: Laura Hough (CA), Ernestine Battle (OH), and Dorothy Borom (OH), along with a host of other close relatives, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
