Education & Early Life

David was educated in the Trenton Public School System and the Hamilton Township School District, where he graduated from Steinert High School in 1975.

Service to His Country

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1980, exemplifying strength, dedication, and commitment during his years of service. During his time aboard the USS Leahy, David's presence extended far beyond his duties. He brought light, joy, and connection to all who crossed his path. As the ship's storekeeper, he was known for his warm spirit and welcoming personality, offering not only everyday essentials, but also genuine conversation, laughter, and camaraderie.

The "Star Gazer" & Love for Music

David often referred to himself as a "Star Gazer," a reflection of both his admiration for legendary entertainers and his own radiant personality. His love for music and entertainment led him to memorable experiences beyond the ship. While traveling to places such as Hollywood and attending events like the Grammy Awards, David collected autographs and photographs from renowned stars including Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Nancy Wilson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Natalie Cole, Richard Pryor, and many more.

He took great pride in these treasured moments, often sharing his photos and stories with others, allowing them to experience the excitement and inspiration alongside him. Even while at sea, David would often sing to his customers and fellow sailors, filling the ship with music and lifting the spirits of everyone around him.

A Life of Love & Joy

Those who knew David will remember him as compassionate, generous, and wonderfully humorous. He had a remarkable ability to bring warmth and laughter wherever he went, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Music, Faith & Passion

Music was at the heart of David's life. He loved to sing, often filling rooms and entire spaces with joy and soulful expression, drawing inspiration from Patti LaBelle and songs like "Music Is the Way I Live." His faith shone through the spiritual songs he cherished, including "Somewhere Around the Throne," "God Is," and "When You've Been Blessed (Feels Like Heaven)."

David sang whenever and wherever his spirit moved him. You would often hear David before you saw him; the sound of music carried his presence. Whether walking through the neighborhood, attending funerals, traveling through the city, or simply passing through town, David's voice was a constant expression of joy, faith, and love. His singing was more than a gift; it was a reflection of his deep belief in God, the peace he carried within, and his ability to touch hearts and lift spirits wherever he went.

"It was a joy to have your love... and now I rest somewhere around the throne of God."

David's life was truly a blessing, one that, in so many ways, felt like heaven.
