His Life & Legacy

Darvin Lavan Shaver was born on November 21, 1950, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Johnny and Leola Shaver. Darvin was the youngest of three children and he accepted Christ at an early age.

Darvin met the love of his life, Carol Ann Mokihana Shaver, who preceded him in death. The two united in marriage and built a life and family together. From their union came four beautiful daughters: Claudine, Chestina, Chiclelyn, and Darvinna. His beloved daughter Chestina also preceded him in death.

Darvin attended and graduated from the Cleveland Public school district. Following high school, Darvin proudly served his country in the United States Army. During his military service, he received several honors and distinctions, including the National Defense Service Medal, Mechanic Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter Badge. His service reflected the dedication, discipline, and strong work ethic that he carried throughout his life.

After his military service, Darvin continued working hard and providing for his family. He spent many years driving for Metropolitan School Bus and worked as a mechanical profession that perfectly suited his natural talent and love for working with his hands.

He loved working on cars and trucks and continually sought opportunities to further his education. For Darvin, there was no such thing as knowing too much. He enjoyed learning, fixing things, and sharing what he knew with those around him.

Anyone who knew Darvin also knew that he was truly one of a kind.

He enjoyed relaxing with a good Western movie or a good tv show, spending time with family, and especially cooking. Those who were fortunate enough to sit at his table knew that Darvin could whip you something up. His homemade soups became family favorites, and his children and grandchildren will forever remember those special dishes that could only taste quite right when Granddad made them.

He was funny, yet mysterious. He could make you laugh, but he also had a stern side that his children and grandchildren knew very well. There was a certain look, a certain tone, and sometimes only two words were needed:

"Park it."

And when Darvin said, "Park it," you knew exactly what that meant. The conversation was over, the playing was finished, and it was time to sit down somewhere. His children and grandchildren knew better than to test him because Darvin did not play!

Darvin also knew how to enjoy life. He loved good music, good company, laughter, celebrations, and being surrounded by people. He had a personality of his own, and anyone who truly knew Darvin knew that once he made up his mind, there was very little anyone could say to change it!

After becoming a widower, Darvin continued enjoying life, companionship, friendship, and the company of those who brought laughter and happiness into his days. He lived life in his own way and remained unmistakably Darvin until the very end.

On September 1, 2026, Darvin transitioned from this earthly life, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, lessons, laughter, and love that will continue through the generations of his family.
