A Life of Lessons, Legacy, and Love
Cheryl Walcott was a proud product of the Cleveland Public School System and attended Warrensville Heights High School. Though she left school in the 11th grade, that early decision did not define the trajectory of her life. Instead, it marked the beginning of a journey filled with resilience, transformation, and purpose.
Life led Cheryl through challenging chapters, including a period of incarceration. Yet even in confinement, her determination to change her narrative emerged with strength and clarity. During that time, Cheryl earned her High School Equivalency, igniting a remarkable journey of academic and personal growth.
Upon her release, Cheryl pressed forward with unwavering resolve. She enrolled at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), earning her Associate's Degree, then advanced to Cleveland State University where she obtained both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Social Work. Her thirst for knowledge and desire to serve became central to her life's mission.
Cheryl became a guiding light for countless individuals on the path to recovery. Drawing from her own lived experience, she offered compassion, authenticity, and hope to those navigating their own struggles. Her presence was a source of strength, and her commitment to mentorship and advocacy made a lasting impact.
She didn't just speak about hope-she embodied it. Whether by mentoring, advocating, or simply being there for someone in need, Cheryl devoted her life to lifting others up.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Monica Walcott Whitfield, her stepfather, Willie "Bo" Whitfield, and her sister Cecilia Walcott.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Toni Walcott and Robert Walcott; her treasured grandson, Tyrese Malik Walcott-Glover; her sisters, Cynthia Walcott and Stacy Walcott; her brothers, Darnell Walcott, Anthony Walcott, and Christopher Whitfield; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Her journey was one of redemption, love, and purpose. Cheryl transformed her trials into triumphs, and her legacy endures in the lives she touched, the people she empowered, and the community she served with all her heart.
