Candace LeAnn Bennette, born on February 12, 1959, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at the age of 67. A devoted homemaker, Candace dedicated her life to her family and instilled in them the values of love and togetherness. She was the beloved mother of Roman Clay, Richard A. Clay III, Deirdre Williams, and Marissa Payne. Candace was also a cherished grandmother, leaving behind Layla Payne, Makenzie Clay, Dedrick James, Dasia Clay, Nathaniel Payne, Darius Clay, and Dylan Clay.Candace's passion for God was evident throughout her life. She had a firm grip on her faith and made sure her family read and understood the word. She also enjoyed music thoroughly, everything from Jazz, R&B, Rock, Funk and Country. She loved singing and dancing, often sharing her love for music with her family during joyful gatherings. Her warmth, charisma, and witty spirit touches to all who knew her. She effortlessly created a nurturing environment in her home, where everyone felt welcomed and loved.

Candace was the unofficial "mother" of the neighborhood, most children that end up on the Clay family porch is still family til this day.

Candace is survived by her children Deirdre Williams, Marissa Payne, and Richard Clay III, and her brother Colin Williams, and a long list of family and friends who shared many cherished memories with her. Her legacy of love and devotion to her family will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to call her mother, sister, and friend. Candace was preceded in death by: Richard A. Clay Jr., John Bennette, Henry Williams, Mary Williams, Gerald Williams, and Roman Clay
