Beatrice Polk was born Beatrice Jones in Aberdeen, Mississippi, on August 15, 1937, to the union of Manuel Jones and Mary Liza Jones. She was the third oldest child of eight siblings. Beatrice later met and married Fred Savoy Polk, and in time, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio, along with other members of her family.
Beatrice was a loving mother who made sure her children were well cared for. She ran her home with a firm hand, balanced by laughter and fun. Better known as "Miss B" or "Grandmother," she was a familiar and trusted figure in every neighborhood where she lived. She had a gift for connecting with people and, as the saying goes, never met a stranger. Her natural curiosity made conversations easy and friendships lasting.
Cooking was one of Beatrice's greatest passions. She was especially known for her delicious greens, peach cobbler, and her unforgettable dressing. Her home was always a place where people loved to gather, particularly during the holidays, when family and friends would come together under her roof. Beatrice also loved gardening and often kept a thriving backyard garden, growing fresh produce for her family. She enjoyed spending time with friends, listening to the blues, playing cards, bingo, and keno. Known for her candor, Beatrice spoke her mind freely and unapologetically, living her life with authenticity and strength.
Beatrice went home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Mary Liza Jones; two brothers, Wesley Jones and Ernest T. Jones; two sisters, Stella Jones and Beauty Mae Parks; two sons, Butch Polk, and Glen Polk; and two daughters, Doloris Small and Linda K. Lee.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Corrine Robinson; two brothers, Ezell Jones and Mozelle Jones; three sons, Prentice Polk (Cheryl), Ricky Polk, and Randy Polk; one sister-in-law, Christine Jones; ten beloved grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her deeply.
