Kathryn (Johnson) Turner

February 12, 1926 — February 15, 2024

Emma Kathryn Turner, affectionately known as Kathryn, passed away at the age of 98. Born to Tressie "Tress", and Maggie Johnson in 1926, she was the middle child of twelve, and the flowery leaf on a deeply rooted family tree. Kathryn, a name she embraced in lieu of Emma, carried a spirit of individuality and strength throughout her life.

Kathryn's heart found its match in Lamarl "Buddy" Turner (deceased), whom she wed on March 16, 1945, in Kemper County, Mississippi. Their love blossomed into a family of four children: Lamarl Jr. (deceased), Annie (deceased), Maxine, and Diane. As a proud grandmother, and great-grandmother, her legacy continues through Lamarl III, Tanya, Tyrone, Charmaine, Tiara, Ryan, Erin, and Makayla.

The Turner family's roots migrated north to Cleveland, Ohio in 1946, after the birth of Lamarl Jr., seeking new beginnings and opportunities. Yet, their hearts remained tethered to Mississippi, returning annually to the family farm, a tradition lovingly passed down to their grandchildren.

Kathryn's zest for life shone brightly when she founded a home-based business in her sixties. Her magnetic personality, and entrepreneurial spirit, propelled her to remarkable heights within the network marketing industry, garnering numerous accolades and a legacy of success.
"Aunt Kat," as she was dearly called by her numerous nieces and nephews, shared more than her presence; her renowned "Pink Pound Cake" became a symbol of her love and generosity. An epicurean at heart, Kathryn reveled in the joy of discovering new eateries and the company of friends and family at each table.

A devout member of Greater Avery AME Church, her faith remained steadfast, even as her church attendance waned. Kathryn's daily fellowship with her spiritual group was a testament to her unwavering faith, and the kindness she radiated.

Remembered for her benevolent nature, everlasting friendliness, and the vibrant smile that could illuminate the darkest of rooms. Kathryn leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with love, resilience, and grace.

Kathryn is survived by two daughters, Maxine Turner, and Diane Spearman (Jim); four grandchildren, Lamarl Turner III, Tanya Turner, Tyrone Moore, and Charmaine Brown (Furney); daughter-in-law, Betty Joyce Turner; four great-grandchildren, Tiara Hudson, Ryan Moore, Erin Moore, and Makayla Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Her memory will continue to be a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
